From here you can also admire the Palazzo dei Banchi and the Palazzo del Podestà, immersed in a unique atmosphere that reflects centuries of Bolognese history and culture. Sit in one of the cafes to observe the daily life of the city or visit the temporary exhibitions and events often held in the square.

Le Due Torri

Le Due Torri, Asinelli and Garisenda, are the symbol of Bologna and one of its most iconic attractions. The Asinelli Tower, some 97 meters high, is open to the public: as you climb the 498 steps, you will be rewarded with a spectacular panoramic view encompassing the entire city and beyond. The lower, leaning Garisenda Tower, on the other hand, is known for its striking inclination, a testament to the unique and historic character of Bologna's architecture.

Le Sette Chiese

In Piazza Santo Stefano, a short walk from Piazza Maggiore, is the Sette Chiese Complex, one of Bologna's oldest and most fascinating places of worship. This series of religious buildings is known for its mystical architecture and deep roots dating back to the first centuries of Christianity. Stroll among the churches, cloisters, and courtyards to breathe in a sacred and contemplative atmosphere, and discover the mysterious charm of one of the city's oldest spiritual treasures.

Basilica of San Petronio

The Basilica of San Petronio is one of the most impressive and striking Gothic churches in Italy, dedicated to the patron saint of Bologna. Situated on Piazza Maggiore, this majestic basilica immediately catches the eye because of its unfinished facade: the lower part, clad in marble, contrasts with the upper part, left in rough brick, offering a unique appearance that tells of centuries of history and projects that were never finished.

Neptune Fountain

The Neptune Fountain, located a short walk from Piazza Maggiore, is one of Bologna's most famous symbols. Created in 1565 by Flemish sculptor Giambologna, this Renaissance fountain depicts the god Neptune in all his majesty, with his symbolic trident and mighty figure. Surrounded by mermaids and mythological figures symbolizing the world's major rivers, Neptune represents water dominance and power.

Santuario di San Luca

Located on the top of Guardia Hill, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of San Luca is one of the most iconic and beloved places for the people of Bologna. This imposing shrine, with its Baroque facade and dome dominating the panorama, is visible from most of the city. The path to reach it is equally special: a portico of 666 arches winds its way from the city to the top of the hill, offering a unique and scenic experience, perfect for a picturesque walk, especially at sunset.
